Bakuriani – in Borjomi region, located in the north slope of Trialeti Ridge, at the bank of the Bakurianistskali River (tributary of Gujaretistskali) (1700 m above sea level, 30 km. from Borjomi).
Bakuriani is nested on the so-called foot of Bakuriani cave made by lava vomited from the Volcano Mukheri. The climate is moderately damp transitional to continental, the winter is cold, snowy, the summer – prolonged.
The average temperature is 4,30 C; January – 7,20 C and August 150 C, sediment 734 mm in a year. Snow cover is 64 mm thickness from the beginning of December till the end of March.
Bakuriani area is surrounded by coniferous forest, it’s famous for ski and climatic resorts. The factors: mountain climate, long sunshine (2025 hours in a year) and high radiation of ultraviolet rays. Medical indications: lymphadenitis, chronic tuberculous diseases of respiratory organs, anemia.
Bakuriani is a ski and skating center of international importance. There are ropeways at Kokhtagora Mountain (1,3 km.) and Tskhratskaro Pass (3,5 km), also ski jumps.
In 2005 Georgia named Bakuriani as one of 2012 Winter Olympic Games Candidate Cities. There were found megalithic cultural remains in Bakuriani, preserved religious building of early feudal era – “Pantnari Church”.
